Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS) presents 3 day (21 Hours/2.5 to 3.0 CEUs), clinical seminars primarily for PTs,  MDs and DOs, however PTAs, may be permitted to take MT-1 and MT-2, provided they comply with APTA HOD RC 31-01(See Below): Our organized continuum of seminars incorporate the teaching of Geoff Maitland and others who have contributed to what has become known as the "Maitland-Australian Concept". 

Accurate assessment and clinical decision making are the keys to effective treatment.  This is taught in a 70% "Hands-On" laboratory format. "Live" patient assessment is also included, where allowed. 

On a scale of 1(Poor) to 6 (Outstanding) the average for the last 13,778 participants was 5.77 or 96.16% 

Techniques of assessment and treatment taught include:

  • Spinal and Peripheral Joint Mobilization
  • Spinal Manipulation (where permitted)
  • Neurodynamics 
  • Traction
  • Spinal Stabilization 
  • Spinal Instability Testing
  • Clinical Reasoning
  • Differential Diagnosis

APTA HOD RC 31-01(Modified) The material taught in these courses is not intended to be used outside the scope of the participants personal abilities, licensure or relevant regulations. Furthermore, elements of patient/client care are considered Physical Therapy only when performed by or under the direction of a Physical Therapist in accordance with APTA policies, positions, and standards.

MT-1 Basic Peripheral Course
Introduction to Maitland's principles for the assessment and treatment of the Peripheral joints.
Includes Assessment & Treatment of the Gleno/Humeral, Scapulo/Thoracic, Acromio/Clavicular, Sterno/Clavicular, Elbow complex, Wrist and Hand.  Lower limb segment include the Hip, Knee, Patello/Femoral, Ankle and Foot. 

MT-2 Basic Spinal Course
Introduction to Maitland's principles for the assessment and treatment of the Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar spine.

MT-3 Intermediate Spinal Course
Continuation from MT-2, assessment and treatment of the Spinal column, refined and clarified. Including spinal instability testing, Traction, Stabilization, and Introduction to Cervical Manipulation.  

MT-4 Differential Assessment and Clinical Reasoning
Continuation from MT-3, emphasis on Clinical Reasoning and Differential Assessment of the Cervical/Shoulder/Thoracic and Lumbo/Pelvic/Hip regions.

MT-5 CERTIFICATION in Manual Therapy
Extensive examination leads to Manual Therapy CERTIFICATION at the Intermediate level.

MT-SIJ...SIJ-PELVIS COURSE
15 Hours Direct (2 Days), 9 Hours Home Study, 1.5 CEUs, $425
This 2 day course is an introduction to Evidence based assessment and treatment of the SIJ and Pelvis. The emphasis is on using current best evidence to improve diagnostic and treatment outcomes. Differential assessment of the Lumbar spine, Hip, SIJ and Pelvis are taught and practiced. The seminar is 75% lab format, offering individual, supervised laboratory instruction. 15 hours over 2 days. Examination and treatment methods are based upon peer reviewed published evidence. An extensive reference list is provided.

MT-GMT...GERIATRIC MANUAL THERAPY
15 Hours Direct (2 Days), 9 Hours Home Study, 2.4 CEUs, $475
MAPS Senior faculty member Chad Cook wrote this 2 day, 75% hands on, workshop on the evidence based role of manual therapy in the disease specific management of the geriatric population. The course is taught by senior Instructors and addresses manual therapy intervention for Osteoporosis, Joint replacements, Arthritis, and Degenerative disc dysfunction and other specific diagnoses based upon the evidence based best practices available. An extensive, interactive CD-Rom is included as well as a comprehensive home examination.

MT-Manips UK OSTEOPATHIC SPINAL MANIPULATION COURSE
15 Hours Direct (2 days) 1.5 CEUs, $595
This 2 day course is an introduction to Spinal Manipulation for the Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar regions based upon the world renowned UK Osteopathic philosophy. This approach utilizes minimal leverage, high velocity, low amplitude thrust techniques....believed to be one of the safest and gentlest forms of manipulation.  

MT-R REVIEW COURSE
21 Hours Direct, 3 days,2.4 CEUs, $595
Open to participants who have completed the MT1-4 series. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, although NOT mandatory for COMT candidates. This course covers essential principles and concepts of the Maitland-Australian approach. 80% laboratory sessions review many of the techniques for major peripheral and spinal joints in the body.  

MT-A CADAVER ANATOMY COURSE
21 Hours Direct, 3 days, 2.4 CEUs, $750
This hands-on anatomy course allows licensed professionals to explore prosected, intact cadavers to supplement their anatomical knowledge. Designed for professionals who wish to correlate their clinical experience with the in-situ anatomy. The cadavers are pre-dissected to allow for maximum learning during the course. Particular emphasis is given to manual therapy and how it relates to the actual anatomy. Major peripheral joints and spinal regions are covered. Class size is strictly limited due to the nature of this course. The course is held at George Washington University, Washington, DC. Participants must hold a PT, MD, or DO license to attend.
