MT-1 ESSENTIAL PERIPHERAL & MT-2 ESSENTIAL SPINAL
LIVE, IN-PERSON SEMINARS
Either MT-1 or MT-2 are the recommended first courses in the MAPS series – Open to PTs, PTAs, MDs, DCs and DOs
A blended online and live learning platform, in which the initial lecture, pre-course materials and additional home study are provided through
MAPS Online Learning, in combination with a two-day live, in-person hands-on laboratory-based weekend seminar. As beneficial to new clinicians as those who have been practicing for years who want to improve their manual therapy and clinical reasoning skills. Both courses include an evidence-based introduction to the Maitland-Australian approach to Orthopedic Manual Therapy (OMT).
Participants are presented with peer-reviewed published evidence supporting the mechanical, neurophysiological, and psychosocial mechanisms and action of OMT, specific to the regions being examined. Evidence from Systematic Reviews and RCTs are presented through an online lecture/PowerPoint presentation to illustrate the effectiveness of the Maitland approach and specific conditions that respond to OMT.
Course modules include:
- Lecture Overview and Introduction
- Mechanisms of Action of OMT
- Evidence for OMT Effectiveness
- Maitland Principles
- Subjective Examination & Physical Examination
- Clinical Applications: Evidence for techniques, conditions that they treat, and how to incorporate them into clinical practice
The Maitland-Australian approach is extremely patient-centric and focuses upon highly specific subjective & objective physical examination processes. Clinical Reasoning and constant reassessment are taught and emphasized. Methods of assessment and treatment are practiced extensively in lab sessions with an expert instructor. Techniques taught include: active physiological, passive physiological, passive accessory, and combination movements. Both osteokinematic and arthrokinematic movements are incorporated. Psychomotor skill acquisition is ensured by detailed Instructor feedback given directly to each participant throughout the course.
“LIVE” patient assessments and treatments are presented where permitted.
MT-1 Essential Peripheral
MT-2 Essential Spinal
Course modules for MT-2 also includes CAD-VBI testing protocols.
